NextGen took over our wonderful local radio station for the 4th time on their annual takeover. Along with the NEXT NextGen - - we raised funds for an hour and had fun on the radio - all supporting our local Laguna station.

March 8, 2019 - - Arbor Day Celebrated at Main Beach
Laguna NextGen supported the second annual local Arbor Day - with the planting of a new tree at Main Beach. The ceremony was kicked off on the cobblestones at Main Beach with City Council members Bob Whalen, Sue Kempf and Toni Isemen, as well as Arbor Day supporters Barbara MacGillivray. Kids and adults alike learned more about the importance of trees in our downtown, and learned more about urban gardening, planting and more! Everyone got involved in the planting of a new New Zealand Christmas tree in front of the lifeguard stand. Kids from the Laguna Beach Boys and Girls Club came out to help - - everyone had a ball!
March 4 - Rock for a Cause - - Benefit to Support the Friendship Shelter
Laguna NextGen partnered with The Ininns Family, Clary Berryhill and Danielle Cavalucci, and Ivan Spiers - along with Skyloft and Laguna Beach 133 Live to raise money for the local Friendship Shelter. This concert was hugely successful and everyone had a great time listening to 133, dancing and enjoying Skyloft. Thanks to everyone for attending!
February 2019 - School Power of Laguna Beach Annual Gala
Laguna NextGen members Meghan MacGillivray and Nicole Anderson personally attended the School Power Dinner Dance, giving funds to the local Laguna Beach schools. This non-profit education foundation raises money for Laguna Beach public schools and depends on volunteers, staff and the community. Their goal is to bring the entire community together in support of local public school.

February 2019 - Valentine's Day Kids Gathering at Pacific Marine Mammal Center
Laguna NextGen held a fun cookie decorating event at the local Pacific Marine Mammal Center, hosting kids from the area to come and see the sealife, decorate cookies, and raise money for PMMC. Despite the rain over 35 kids came out to the center and enjoyed the festivities. We were able to raise over $300 for PMMC, and offered the community a wonderful opportunity to support this wonderful organization - and to get the kiddos involved!
February 2019 - - Annual Planned Parenthood of Orange County Luncheon
Sponsored by Barbara MacGillivray, Laguna NextGen went to support the Planned Parent of Orange County luncheon in Costa Mesa. Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties provides essential reproductive health care, nutrition services, and education programs to more than 200,000 local women and men, regardless of their personal circumstances or ability to pay.

January 9, 2019 - - City Council Meet and Greet
Laguna NextGen held a mixer with all 5 city council members at 7 Degrees, allowing the public to meet the city council in a relaxed setting. This event had a fantastic turnout of over 60 people, allowing everyone to speak with and ask questions to the city council. A big thank you to the city council members: Mayor Bob Whalen, Toni Iseman, Steve Dicterow, Peter Blake and Sue Kempf for their valuable time.

Our individual NextGen board members support the local Friendship Shelter which provides year-round shelter and rehabilitation to homeless adults. Today they provide a full complement of services to the most vulnerable homeless people in our community, and are focused on finding the most appropriate permanent housing solution for each individual. They follow the housing first and harm reduction models of care, and have worked with more than 10,000 people to end their homelessness. They are proud that each night more than 160 homeless and formerly homeless people sleep safe, warm, and cared for in one of their programs. For more info go to http://www.friendshipshelter.org/.

Laguna NextGen attended the annual Laguna Beach State of the Union held by the Laguna Beach Chamber of Commerce. There was a emotional goodbye to Mayor Kelly Boyd as he retires from the City Council. Annual KX93.5 Radio Station Takeover - - Laguna NextGen
Laguna NextGen "took over" the local radio station for an hour during their annual take over event. Locals are asked to come on air and speak and play music about topics important to them. The person who raises the most in donations is awarded bragging rights. We love it every year!

NextGen held a mixer at The Marine Room with guest speaker City Manager John Petig. John went over topics of interest to NextGen members including undergrounding, parklet, the homeless, and more. We were so grateful to John for speaking and answering questions.
March 2018 - - Arbor Day in Laguna Beach
Our very own NEXT NextGen got out there to celebrate Arbor Day and help plant a tree alongside city council members. It was a fantastic event and celebrated the trees within Laguna at the first-ever event. City officials hope to make the festivities, which took place at Jahraus Park, a sliver of grassy space off Cliff Drive, an annual tradition.
Laguna Art Museum Fundraiser - - 2017
Laguna Art Museum is the museum of California art. It collects, cares for, and exhibits works of art that were created by California artists or represent the life and history of the state. Unlike any other museum in the state, it collects California art and only California art, and ranges across all periods and styles, nineteenth-century to present-day.
September 2017 - - GreenFeast - - The Ecology Center
The Ecology Center in San Juan Capistrano is a non-profit organization models creative solutions for thriving on planet earth. They believe everyone should have access to the tools, knowledge, and skills that promote healthy communities in the 21st century. They design spaces that inspire interaction with our ecosystem and transform our relationship with each other. This local farm is a wonderful place to take children of all ages! Their annual GreenFeast is a fundraiser that gathers chefs, farmers and community together to eat with intention.

The July NextGen meeting at the Wine Gallery Laguna Beach was a huge success thanks to Mayor Toni Iseman who covered topics including parking, village entrance, beach safety, tourist traffic, and opportunities for NextGen to get involved! Every year Laguna Beach NextGen board members donate individual time and funds to the Laguna Beach SchoolPower. This organization has raised money for Laguna Beach public schools since 1981. Their success depends on a multitude of hard-working volunteers, a small, dedicated staff and a generous community. The money raised by SchoolPower provides the four Laguna Beach public schools—El Morro Elementary, Top of the World Elementary, Thurston Middle School and Laguna Beach High School—with valued educational programs and resources. Examples of programs currently receiving funding from SchoolPower and SchoolPower Endowment are: K-3 class size reduction, performing/visual arts at the middle and high school, an additional high school counselor, an extra period for electives at the middle school, K-8 music, the foreign language program, district-wide advancements in wireless infrastructure and educational technology, an expansion of the strings program and high school athletics.

NextGen held a meeting at the Wine Gallery Laguna Beach in September 2016. Thank you Chris Olsen, Next Gen supporter and owner of the Wine Gallery. It was a beautiful night with a great turn out including a number of political candidates attending. We were fortunate to have City Manager, John Pietig, speak informing the group on a number of pressing ballot measures including Measure LL and Measure KK. NextGen hosted a table at the Laguna Beach SchoolPower Fundraiser "Calling All Heroes" in March 9, 2016 at the beautiful Montage. It was a great evening supporting our local public schools. The event raised over $300,000 to support our public schools. SchoolPower is the oldest, non-profit education foundation in Orange County and has raised money for Laguna Beach public schools since 1981. Spirit of Laguna Awards 2016
The Chamber of Commerce holds an annual Spirit of Laguna Awards where they recognize individuals within the community who have gone above and beyond in their support and dedication to the city. NextGen went to honor Barbara MacGillivray who was awarded "Citizen of the Year" by the Chamber.

Local Shopping Event and Meeting
Monkey Business was a fun-pop up shopping event hosted at Ritual Yoga in Laguna Beach by Laguna NextGen. Local business owners such as The Shop, North, Connie Archbald, Gorjana, Roots Beauty, Tristan Abel and Bless'ed Booch set up shop. Meeting and Social at 2015 MacGillivray Freeman Films
Our October 7th, 2015 event at MacGillivray Freeman films was a success. We all had a great time catching up and meeting new people. Thank you to MacGillivray Freedman Films for hosting us, Laguna Beer Co for the beer, David Langrin for the great music, and Bless'ed Booch for sharing your Kombucha with us. We hear from founder Aaron Talarico at this event about City of Laguna Beach affairs. We shared the great news that we started a fund at Laguna Beach Community Foundation to be able to accept charitable gifts to grant out to local non profits.
NextGen Event at the Marine Room to Support the Friendship Shelter of Laguna Beach
On August 5th the first kickoff event was held at the local Marine Room, where celebrity guest, Patrick Carney of the Black Keys provided musical entertainment to a sold-out crowd. This event raised awareness and donations for the Friendship Shelter, a resource in Laguna which helps homeless adults achieve self-sufficiency and become productive members of the Community. Associate Executive Director Mark Miller spoke to over 150 people about the importance of the Friendship Shelter in Laguna Beach, and how their contributions make a difference. “It is such a boost to Friendship Shelter to have [NextGen]’s involvement and support in such a meaningful way” said Mark. Danielle Ward Shuster and Nicole Anderson appeared on the popular “Friendship Hour” on local radio station KX93.5 to discuss NextGen and the event. A number of local businesses such as the Marine Room and ZPizza donated items to make the event a huge success. We raised over $5000 to support the Friendship Shelter in Laguna Beach.
